APart Audiolock: Making Noise at Work Compliance Simple
26.02.2008 Sennheiser UK

The Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 means that it is illegal for an owner of a workplace to expose workers to sound pressure levels over 85dB without adequate hearing protection. However, in pubs and clubs it's not always straightforward to ensure that those levels are adhered to, especially in situations where visiting DJs and guests are in control of the venue's music.

The APart Audiolock is an automatic decibel level controller that ensures that the sound pressure level will never exceed the maximum level as set by the venue.

Simply connect the Audiolock between the mixer or pre-amplifier and the power amplifier. Once installed, if the DJ wants to exceed the maximum adjusted level, the Audiolock will automatically and unobtrusively re-adjust. The Audiolock is sabotage proof, both electronically and mechanically, while a remote control unit allows the owner or manager to adjust the maximum level from outside the DJ booth. The maximum level, set on the central unit in the booth itself, cannot be exceeded, and a green LED will turn red to inform the DJ if he or she tries to exceed that preset level.

The Control of Noise at Work Regulations 2005 states that employers must now provide hearing protection for workers at 85dB, and they must assess the risk to workers' health and provide them with information and training at 80dB. There is also an exposure limit value of 87dB, taking account of any noise reduction provided by hearing protection, above which workers must not be exposed. APart Audiolock ensures these legal requirements will always be met.

The APart Audiolock is distributed in the UK by Sennheiser UK. The Audiolock decibel limiter controller retails in the UK for £449.00 excluding VAT, and is sold with numbered seals for easy installation. The Lock-key remote control unit is sold separately and retails for £129.00 ex VAT in the UK.
