Located in one of South Africa's primary port cities, the ICC Durban was originally built just over 10 years ago, and has since hosted numerous prestigious international conventions, including the International AIDS Conference in 2000.
To celebrating the Centre's 10th anniversary, the ICC Durban launched the new extension to their facility The Arena. As a multi-purpose platform for international conferences and events, The Arena can offer the perfect staging for any occasion, consisting of three halls each with the capacity to be sub-divided into separate rooms. The three halls can also be combined to create a single large hall, with a capacity for up to 10,000 people. When ICC Durban isn't hosting conventions The Arena lives up to its name, hosting theatre and live music performances, and sports including tennis, wrestling, gymnastics, equestrian events and even motocross.
With such a wide variety of activities to host, The Arena's audio installation needed flexibility. Specified by TDC Africa (Pty) Ltd a South African company with offices in Johannesburg and Durban, and Prosound (Pty) Ltd one of the largest professional audio and lighting companies within Sub-Sahara Africa. Together they agreed that the best amplifiers for The Arena would be the new PowerSoft Digam Q-series, with remote control option installed into the amplifiers. A total of four equipment racks were installed at various points in the roof service area of The Arena, each rack filled with a number of PowerSoft Q-series amplifiers as well as PowerSoft Power Control Hubs.
In total The Arena now holds twenty-four Q3002 power amps, forty-three Q3204 power amps and seven TU-4 insulation units, all controlled via fifteen PowerSoft Control Hubs and linked by PowerSoft Remote Control and Monitoring Software.
