Sennheiser returns to Glastonbury
07/20/2007 Sennheiser UK

Worthy Farm witnessed the triumphant return of the Glastonbury Festival in June and with it the continued support of Sennheiser for The John Peel Stage. Renowned as the third stage of Glastonbury and with its reputation swelling year on year, the stage attracted unprecedented star power to its line up including headliners Hot Chip, The Twang and Gossip, plus an under-card of hotly tipped rising stars. Sennheiser was on hand backstage lending technical support, while also supplying a wide array of equipment across the Glastonbury site.

The 2007 festival marks the fifth time that Sennheiser has distinguished itself as the principal supporter of The John Peel Stage, which is managed by Julian Spear of the South West Group. This year also saw the involvement extended to The Park, a new area created by Emily Eavis, daughter of Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis, and also managed by South West Group. Included within the Sennheiser equipment supplied to both areas were e935 and e840 microphones, evolution 300 series in-ear monitors and evolution 500 series transmitters.

Also employed was the e901 kick drum microphone. Mathew Kettle, FOH engineer for Mark Ronson, was unequivocal in his praise for it.

"I’ve been using this since it came out and I’ve never heard such a clear, loud drum sound," he exclaimed after Ronson’s show-stopping set on the Peel stage.

Representing Sennheiser on site at the festival were technicians Andy Lillywhite and Sam Davidson, European A&R Manager Mark Saunders and Marketing Director John Steven.

"It’s very important that the engineers all over Glastonbury who use Sennheiser know that we’re here on site to support them," explained Steven. "Plus supporting the John Peel stage is a fantastic way to support rising stars and new young talented bands. Glastonbury is a unique event and the John Peel stage is a unique part of it."

"Supporting the John Peel Stage allows us to have a base from which to offer any required technical support for our users on site," added Mark Saunders, "whether they be artists or customers."

Sennheiser-supported artists benefiting from the on-site expertise include Kasabian, Bloc Party, Mika, Lily Allen, Editors, Kaiser Chiefs and Corinne Bailey Rae.
