New Lab.gruppen FP+ Series Doubles Power - Same Size and Weight
20.09.2006 Sennheiser UK
With the introduction at Plasa 2006, of four amplifiers in the new FP+ Series, Lab.gruppen once again sets the industry benchmark for touring power amplification.

The flagship FP 13000 provides two channels of 6500 watts @ 2 ohms and the FP 10000Q delivers 4 channels of 2500 watts @ 2 ohms. Completing the new line are the FP 7000, rated at 2 x 3500 watts @ 2 ohms, and the FP 6000Q supplying 4 x 1500 watts @ 2 ohms. All models are in a 2U housing, weigh 26.5 lbs (12 kg), and are backed by a 6-year, no-quibble warranty.

The FP+ Series technology platform combines a considerable refinement of patented Class TD amplification and the Regulated Switch Mode Power Supply to afford the user proven reliability with unprecedented power and channel density. The FP+ Series will effectively allow over 50% reduction in rack space measured against the company's current fP Series amplifiers - already a standard in touring amp space and power efficiency. Also, for the first time, Lab.gruppen's proprietary NomadLink control and monitoring network is available in a touring package as a standard feature.

"The new FP+ Series is a fitting tribute to the years of work that company co-founder Kenneth Andersson and the rest of the R&D team have invested in the continual development of Lab.gruppen's core amplifier technologies," said Tomas Lilja, Managing Director, Lab.gruppen AB. "Extracting more than twice the previously available power from basically the same package size and weight has to be regarded as a considerable achievement."

With FP+ Series' 4-channel models, each pair of channels may be bridged to provide 2- or 3-channel operation. Full power without clipping is assured, as overall input sensitivity on all models is adjustable in 3dB increments from 23 to 44dB. Additionally, VPL (Voltage Peak Limiting) tailors each individual output for the specific load conditions, providing eight peak power output levels to optimize performance while protecting mid- and high-frequency voice coils.

According to Lilja, Lab.gruppen is presently enjoying record sales and has invested heavily in new and expanded manufacturing capability to ensure that the FP+ Series flows into full production swiftly. "We are extremely confident that the touring market will benefit from the FP+ Series' benchmark power and channel density," he continues, "and that the ever-present financial pressures prevalent in tour sound will be, at least in part, offset by the value FP+ Series offers in both initial investment and cost of operation."

FP+ is expected to start shipping Autumn 2006.
