Editors on tour with Evolution
04.07.2006 Sennheiser UK

After their phenomenal success in 2005 playing live to over 250,000 festival fans, 2006 just continues to bring good news for Editors. The band are currently on the road throughout Europe which started with a run of three sold out shows at London's Brixton Academy and a triumphant appearance at the Isle of Wight Festival.

And throughout the tour, Sennheiser is playing a full supporting role. An e840 wired vocal mic is used by front man Tom Smith, and front-of-house engineer Nick Ingram explains, "The dynamics from the cardioid e840 are tremendous. We tried several mics before discovering the e840, which enables us to control sibilence without compromising on presence. It doesn't overload the front end on you and the result is a full bodied rich-sounding mic, which is ideal for Tom's vocals."

Ingram, who's first major touring job has been with Editors but has also worked with Dogs Die In Hot Cars and Jim Moray, is very enthusiastic with the sounds that he's been getting from evolution mics on the drums. "I use e904s on toms because they just have a bigger body to them," observes Ingram. "With less EQ you can make them sound a lot better than any other mics I've tried."

"Completing the backline setup," he says, "I like to run an e609 on Chris Urbanowicz's guitar and e906's for Tom Smith's guitar and bass guitar distortion. I look for a lot of mid-range in my guitars and the e906, with its three adjustable sound characteristics is really punchy sounding whilst retaining warmth ."

Editors In-Ears are the Sennheiser EW300IEM-G2 systems and Ingram adds, "These are undeniably the industry standard. The audio quality is superb and doesn't suffer from the high-end sizzle that some rival systems do. The scanning function is a real bonus, cutting down on set-up time each day. And the overall sound quality and small pack size has been a real hit with the band, which is the most important factor at the end of the day."

After the American leg of their tour, Editors move to Japan before their final date in Turkey on September 3rd.
