| 20.08.2002 High Wycombe / Liverpool |
Sennheiser UK again recognised excellence and achievement by students at the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts with the presentation of its Student Achievement Awards at the recent graduation ceremony in the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall. At the ceremony, conducted by Lead Patron, Sir Paul McCartney and Principal and Chief Executive, Mark Featherstone-Witty, Sennheiser UK Managing Director, Paul Whiting, presented a total of four awards, each accompanied by a cash prize of £500.
Peers and tutors nominated the recipient students, all studying for or graduating with Sound Technology BA Degrees and Theatre Performance Technology, for outstanding work in the course of their studies. Winning projects ranged from joint work by first year Sound Technology students Ian Graham, Robert Scanlon and Christian Hildebrand on the LIPA One recording, mixing and mastering project; music production for the Millennium Awards Scheme by second year Sound Tech student Sebastian von Bischopink. Awards were also made in recognition of consistently exceptional levels of achievement to graduating Sound Tech and TPT students, Simon Poole and David Jolly respectively.
Commenting, Paul Whiting stated: "We have once again been extremely impressed with the breadth of creativity and dedication displayed by the LIPA students. With these awards we seek to acknowledge some of that talent and commitment at LIPA. But the general high professional standards and production values realised in the work of the students makes the process of selecting the particular recipients of the Sennheiser awards a difficult one, although always a rewarding."

The graduation day events also included a private presentation by Rolf Meyer, President Marketing and Sales, Sennheiser electronic GmbH, to Sir Paul McCartney "in recognition of a lifetime creative influence in music and the arts". The presentation comprised of three very special microphones; an almost "mint" fully functional Sennheiser MD21, recovered from the famous Hamburg Star Club, that was used there by Sir Paul and the Beatles during their 1962 residency, and a matched pair of brand new Neumann M150 tube mics.
EDITORS' NOTES Sennheiser funds a number of on-going sponsorship initiatives at LIPA, principal among them the international scholarship for students studying for the Sound Technology BA degree. There are currently three Scholarship students studying at LIPA. Further support is provided by the donation of professional theatre and studio equipment to assist in expanding the resources available for teaching and production activities. The Sennheiser Student Achievement Awards are made throughout the academic year in recognition of personal achievement and innovation in the field of sound and performance arts related technology.
N.B.: Nothing in the above is intended to imply any endorsement of Sennheiser products by Sir Paul McCartney.
