Sennheiser Takes Control at Concert For Diana
07.05.2007 Sennheiser UK

London, UK - Wembley Stadium hosted the biggest concert of the year in early July, and Sennheiser were there in force to ensure everything went smoothly. The Concert For Diana, marking ten years since the death of Diana, Princess of Wales saw Sennheiser as the first choice of microphones in in-ear monitoring systems for both artists and event production company Britannia Row.

The Concert For Diana began with Sennheiser, as Princes William and Harry delivered emotional speeches through a pair of SKM5200s. After such an auspicious start, the show and the TV broadcast, to an estimated audience 13.1 million, continued to be driven by Sennheiser. The BBC presenters used SKM5000 handhelds throughout the show while, on the multiple stages, over 70% of all the artists used Sennheiser microphones, with all the bands, with the exception of a solitary pair, using the twelve channels of EW300 In-Ear monitors available, including, for the first time, new Sennheiser endorsee Lily Allen. The Feeling, Nelly Furtado, Fergie, Pharrell Williams, Joss Stone, Will Young, Andrea Bocelli and a musical special from Andrew Lloyd Webber, which included Anastasia, all used Sennheiser on the day. In rehearsal Natasha Bedingfield tried a SKM 935 for the first time, and promptly decided to use it for the biggest show of her life.

It wasn’t just the artists who appreciated Sennheiser’s presence. Director of Engineering Dave Hawker and Chief Engineer Andy Lillywhite were at Wembley on all weekend to ensure all Britannia Row’s mic and in ear issues were solved before they became problems.

"Sennheiser is very good on these shows," explained Britannia Row’s Mike Lowe. "It really is a great help to work with a microphone manufacturer on these shows, especially a manufacturer that’s very into radio as well – handhelds and in-ear monitors. That’s a well-trodden path with Sennheiser and us on the big shows. They really rise to the occasion. People like Dave Hawker and Andy Lillywhite know all our radio techs and we work really well together with them."
