Sennheiser Product Highlights at the 110th AES Convention

MKH 800 – Studio Condenser Microphone for New Digital Audio Formats
The MKH 800 is a true milestone in microphone technology. Based on the design of Sennheiser’s famous MKH 80 variable pattern condenser microphone, the MKH 800 is the first studio condenser microphone to reach an
audio frequency response of up to 50 kHz. It is therefore the ideal choice for audiophile recordings using the new digital audio formats such as Audio DVD, which are able to reproduce frequencies of up to 48,000 Hz at a sampling rate of 96 kHz.

Featuring exceptional frequency response and wide dynamic range, the new audio technologies provide a far more detailed and accentuated reproduction of sound than the standard 16-bit CD. Conventional microphones,
however, are limited to a frequency response of approx. 20,000 Hz. To meet the new digital standards and to record frequencies of up to 50 kHz, Sennheiser has designed the MKH 800. Its mechanical and acoustical design
allows exceptionally detailed recordings of complex sound structures. Careful design of the capsule and the acoustically important parts of the microphone housing has reduced sound field interference at high frequencies to
an absolute minimum. An LED helps to precisely direct the microphone at the sound source. Operating on the push-pull principle, the MKH 800 exhibits extremely low distortion. Further benefits include compact size, five
selectable pick-up patterns and various options for tonal adjustments.
