Sennheiser Sound Performance, Maximum Results
Sennheiser and trainer to the stars - Prof. Greg Whyte – hosted a training day, to highlight the benefits of training to music.
Sennheiser – the audio specialists, last week teamed up with Prof. Greg Whyte, coach and personal trainer to the stars, to host a successful training event at David Lloyd gym in Fulham. The day was a great hit with all who took part and proved that using music as a key motivator and aid to good training disciplines was vital to obtaining better results from each session.
Greg has trained a host of celebrities for various Sports Relief events in recent years, including Eddie Izzard, Chris Moyles and Fearne Cotton. His most recent achievement of considerable note was training and mentoring Little Britain’s David Walliams for his River Thames Swim.
The morning kicked off with a welcome breakfast briefing from both Greg and Linda Irvin, product manager at Sennheiser, including an overview of why music is an integral motivational tool and the importance of using headphones that can cope with extreme conditions, handling and sweat. The centrepiece of the morning was an exclusive two-hour training session, designed by Greg specifically to demonstrate how using music with differing tempos to motivate and achieve various levels of physical exertion for maximum results.
With a bespoke playlist (detailed below), Greg took the group through a classic training session, using a series of exercises ranging from low intensity warm ups, to high intensity resistance training. The session used a combination of spin bikes, dumbbells and floor work exercises, to provide the class with a complete spectrum of different workout techniques and intensity levels. The music also varied in frequency and speed to match and emphasize the value of music to obtain greater results from a workout programme/training session.
Greg Whyte explains, “I really used the music to show how we can change the tempo and use it to focus, displace and motivate ourselves to improve the quality of the session.”
“We saw today, that the class got into a rhythm a lot quicker when listening to the music. They were also less distracted with what was going on around them and as a result were more focused on the goal – whether training harder or for longer periods of time” explains Steve Dalton, marketing communications manager at Sennheiser.
Sennheiser’s ergonomically designed sports headphones were used by all participants on the day. The range, built to cope with both the demanding environments sports enthusiasts put them through, as well as everyday gym use offered users unique features for a sports environment including: EarFin holding system to ensure that the ear pieces fit securely and comfortably in the ear, Kevlar reinforced cables, protection system against moisture, not only effectively repelling sweat but also protecting the internal components of the earphones against rain and snow.
Whyte explained “I used the PMX 680 today; they worked beautifully for me as a trainer because its behind the head design gave me the flexibility of taking out the headphones out when I needed to talk to people and popping it back in afterwards. It’s that flexibility, as well as the great sound quality that I got from them that made it the perfect choice. It’s absolutely crucial that headphones deliver comfort, as well as performance and quality. What’s great about Sennheiser is that you get great quality during exercise, as well as getting the comfort, fit and functionality, you also get the great sound quality.”
