The Twang snap into action with Sennheiser
The Twang, the Birmingham band that has lived up to the predictions for greatness that welcomed them at the beginning of 2007, have become the latest band to endorse Sennheiser microphones. The band has had a hectic year yet somehow found time to record a critically acclaimed debut album in between constant touring across Britain, Europe and even Japan, including a Saturday night headline slot on the John Peel Stage at this year's Glastonbury Festival. After taking the front of house reins in April this year engineer Chris Martin was keen to continue where his predecessor had left off.
"The previous front of house engineer, Nick Ingram, had a deal with Sennheiser," he explains. "And after listening to the results that he was getting I decided that it would be a good move to use pretty much the same mics he was using. The main reason we went with Sennheiser is the simple fact that the products are great. And the back up is second to none. Whenever we have had a problem or just needed more stuff it was there with no questions asked within a couple of days."
Unusually for a 21st Century rock band, The Twang share a pair of vocalists and frontmen Phil Etheridge and Martin Saunders. Etheridge uses a wireless SKM 935 G2 while Saunders prefers the wired model of the same capsule.
"These mics have a great feedback prevention and they have a good high output warm sound to them," continues Martin. "The spare mic is also an e935."
The Twang's backline is entirely mic'ed by Sennheiser. The cymbals are all mic'ed with e614s, with an e901 and e902 on the kick drum, an e905 and e904 on the snare top and bottom respectively, e908s on each of the toms and an e906 on the bongos. The bass cabinet is mic'ed with an e902 and the two guitar cabs have e906s, plus one e614 at the rear.
In addition to the array of microphones, Twang drummer Matty Clinton has also been fitted with Sennheiser in ear monitors. "He uses his IEMs for click track everyday and he loves them," promises Martin.
"I can't thank Sennheiser enough for working with this new band from the start and helping us," he continues. "I would recommend these products to any sound engineer looking for a complete microphone package. They just keep on working and sounding great."
