The DMC World DJ Championship marked its 24th anniversary with two nights of scratching and celebration at Indigo at London’s O2 Arena this September. Sennheiser, Serato and Rane were all part of the party, lending their technology and sponsorship to the biggest event of the turntablism year.


For the very first time 2008 saw the World Championships reflecting the digital technology now available to DJs, and in addition to the ubiquitous Technics turntables DJs in the team competition were allowed to incorporate new technologies and software in their performances. Many DJs impressed by using Serato Scratch LIVE in their sets, while the majority used Rane mixers and Sennheiser HD25 professional headphones.
 
Hosted by MC Trip, beat boxer Killa Kela, and Billy Biznizz, the Championships were full of drama and dexterity, with France’s DJ Fly, user of a Rane TTM56 mixer, the runaway winner of the individual World Title.

The coveted DJ team award went to Rane users Kireek from Japan, ahead of TraumaTeam from France and Italy’s Intellivision. Prizes for the winning team included new Rane TTM57 mixers.

The DMC World Championships have launched the careers of many internationally renown DJs, including early winners like the UK’s Scratch Perverts and Cutmaster Swift, legends like Q-Bert, C2C (four times DMC World Team Champions), DJ Ca$h Money and Beastie Boys’ DJ Mixmaster Mike.

Rane and Serato products are distributed in Great Britain by Sennheiser UK.
