The Mighty Boosh Tour with Sennheiser In-Ear Monitors

The Mighty Boosh are currently on the first leg of their four-month tour of the UK. And a vital part of British comedy's brightest stars' armoury, in addition to a multitude of costume changes, on-stage effects and many fabulously ridiculous jokes, are the Sennheiser in-ear monitors that allow the musical sections of the show to flow seamlessly.

For the two-hour show's many musical numbers all five members of the comedy team Julian Barratt (Howard Moon), Noel Fielding (Vince Noir), Michael
Fielding (Naboo The Enigma), Dave Brown (Bollo) and Rich Fulcher (Bob
Fossil) are fitted with Sennheiser ew 300 IEM G2 monitors, as are the
two-man backing band.

"There are two full-time musicians in the band on drums and bass," explains Front of House Engineer Ashley Jones, part of the team from Sound and Lighting Specialists Sonalyst. "And at the climax of the show Noel sings, Julian plays guitar, Rich plays keyboards and Dave plays bongos. When it's all going it's a five-piece band."

"They are all using ew 300 IEM G2s," confirms Monitor Engineer Mark Buckley. "I always specify them. The sound is so great, especially when you go up to six or seven on the dial. Most people, when they're using in-ears, put the dial on three or four because the engineer is slamming the desk so hard. But the Sennheiser in-ears have a good little amplifier in them."

For performers who had never used in-ear monitoring previously, the change to the Sennheiser IEMs went surprisingly smoothly. Buckley continues, "Julian, who plays guitar and Dave, who plays Bollo the Gorilla, have taken to it like ducks to water."

"Dave has his in-ear in the whole time inside his monkey head," confirms Jones. "He has a big monkey head on with fans in it to keep him cool. So he loves his in-ears because he can actually hear."

In addition to the Sennheiser monitors, Jones and Buckley employ Sennheiser e 905s on the kit¹s toms, and an e 901 on the kick drum.

The Mighty Boosh's Tour continues until January.
