The Automatic Tackle ´Monster´ Tour with Sennheiser
The Automatic, the Welsh rock band that first shot to fame in 2006 with hits like Raoul and the ubiquitous Monster, took delivery of a host of Sennheiser microphones for their month-long sold out tour of the UK this spring. The band played intimate venues across the country for an entire month, road-testing tracks from their second album, This Is A Fix, due out later this summer.
The band took a full range of microphones from Sennheiser, including four e 945s for the three vocalists, e 906s for guitar cabinets and snares, e 604s for toms and an e 901 on the kick drum.
James Lawrenson has been front of house engineer for the band since their inception.
"I approached Sennheiser's Artist Relations Manager Phil Cummings and discussed getting hold of some mics before the tour started," he explains. "I used to work at the Cardiff Barfly and still work at Clwb Ifor Bach in Cardiff, and they had a lot of Sennheiser mics. I've had an e 906 for ages and I'd used the e 945s before and really liked them. They're great. So naturally I wanted to take them out again.
"The band's response to the new mics has been great. They're a lot warmer and more natural than what we were using previously."
On a tour stretching from Devon to Inverness and back again, taking in 22 gigs in under four weeks, Lawrenson was pleased that mics were one thing he didn¹t have to worry about.
"The Sennheiser mics are consistent and require very little EQing if any at all, I can leave most of my channels flat because they sound great straight off," he continues. "You know exactly what they¹re going to sound like every night."
