Sennheiser successfully defends itself against product pirates
21.12.2006 Wedemark

Audio specialist Sennheiser has successfully delivered another blow to Chinese product pirates. On December 19, 2006 Chinese security forces and an investigation bureau commissioned by Sennheiser searched three buildings in the town of Enping thereby seizing several hundred fake “evolution“ microphones and “evolution wireless” radio microphone systems. Those responsible were handed over to the Chinese law enforcement authorities.

This is not the first time that Sennheiser has cooperated with the Chinese security forces to carry out such raids but the tactics of the product pirates who smuggle inferior quality copies onto the market are becoming ever more sophisticated. Rolf Meyer, Speaker of the Sennheiser Executive Committee stated: “In our first raid four years ago we were able to seize tens of thousand microphones. Today the counterfeiters produce the goods scattered across the whole country and the microphones and microphone systems are only assembled in small quantities shortly before their sale. It is only at this point that the authorities can intervene.” The confiscated goods are deceptively similar to the original products but use inferior acoustic and electronic components. “evolution“ and “evolution wireless“ are the most successful microphone ranges from the audio specialist, Sennheiser.

As one of the world’s leading manufacturers of microphones, headphones and wireless transmission systems, the Sennheiser Group with its headquarters in Wedemark near Hanover, Germany, had total sales of about €300 million in 2005. The export share is 82.5%. Sennheiser has a total workforce of more than 1,650 employees, of whom about 60% are employed in Germany. Sennheiser is active worldwide and, in addition to other partnerships, has its own sales subsidiaries in France, the UK, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, China, Singapore, Canada, Mexico and the USA.
