Sports equipment manufacturers O'Neill unveiled their intelligent snowboard jacket "The Hub" at this year's ISPO in Munich, the international trade fair for sports goods and sports fashion. The jacket features an integrated MP3 player that can be operated from the outside as well as a Bluetooth module for controlling a cell phone, all made possible by a chip module from Infineon. Electroacoustic specialists Sennheiser electronic are responsible for the powerful headphones.
Lined with strips of conductive material, the innovative space-age fabric from O'Neill and Infineon protects the integrated MP3 player and a cell phone from snow and water, with push buttons on the jacket that make operation easy — even when wearing thick skiing gloves. To ensure the very best sound quality, Infineon Technologies AG chose Sennheiser electronic GmbH & Co. KG for the audio technology. They rounded off the jacket with ultra-light MX 400 earphones.
Sennheiser headphones technology is also featured in a new skiing helmet that O'Neill, the market leader in the snowboard sector, unveiled at the ISPO fair. On the basis of their award-winning PX 100 folding headphones, Sennheiser developed special earpieces for the O'Neill helmet — providing excellent audio sound on the ski slopes with the same high quality as a home hi-fi system.
"We are very pleased that Infineon has chosen audio technology from Sennheiser", said Rolf Meyer, President Marketing and Sales at Sennheiser. "Wearable electronics, the new concept of 'intelligent clothing', is a market with tremendous potential, for which our research and development departments can contribute top-quality headphones and microphone technology."
As one of the world's leading manufacturers of microphones, headphones and wireless transmission systems, the Sennheiser Group with its headquarters in Wedemark near Hanover, Germany, had total sales of over €229 million in 2002. The export share is about 80%. Sennheiser has a total workforce of approx. 1,500 employees, of whom 800 are employed in Germany. Sennheiser is active worldwide and, in addition to other partnerships, has its own sales subsidiaries in France, the UK, Belgium, the Netherlands, China, Singapore, Canada, Mexico and the USA.
