Hong Kong, July 2008 — Popular music figures including members of former rock band Beyond paid tribute to the late Wong Ka Kui, performing to a sell-out concert of around 7,000 fans in June. The concert, organized by Wong’s brother and Beyond band-mate Ka Keung, was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre on what would have been his 46th birthday. Tickets were sold out on the day of release.

Widely regarded by the Hong Kong music industry as a talented and inspirational figure in rock music, Wong founded Beyond in 1983 and helmed the band as its lead vocalist and rhythm guitarist. He composed most of the band’s songs, and also penned award-winning lyrics such as that for The Glorious Days. In 1993, while filming for a Japanese television game show, Wong fell off the stage, hit his head and passed away about a week later at the age of 31.
For the tribute concert, Sennheiser supplied e 900 series instrument microphones, wireless monitoring systems, SKM 935 wireless transmitters and twin receivers. In particular, the e 901, e 904 and e 905 were used on drums, e 914 on the ride cymbals and the Neumann KM 184 on hihat and overheads. |
