Cooperation with Top Artist Gary V.
September 2001 – For pop fans in the Philippines he is what Ricky Martin is for US fans. Gary Valenciano, or as everyone calls him, Gary V., is the undisputed top performer in his country. For almost 20 years this multi-awarded performer who has released 17 albums, appeared as a leading man in 12 movies, and garnered over 200 nominations and awards in the field of music has been at the top of the charts, producing, composing, dancing and singing, providing his fans with great music. He has travelled all over the world and has performed in such prestigious venues like the Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles where legendary artists Smokey Robinson, Billy Preston and George Duke gave him a standing ovation after a two-hour solo concert in 1994. In Japan, he performed with esteemed trumpet player Terumasa Hino in a special concert, singing the Chick Corea composition ”Spain”. Last year, he performed with Cliff Richard at the RAI Convention Hall in Amsterdam for the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association.Together with Yupangco Electronics, Sennheiser’s partner in the Philippines, Gary and his management company, Manila Genesis Entertainment, had the idea to launch a special ”Gary V. microphone” and at the same time do something for the Gary V. children’s fund, because Gary is not only a consummate artist, but also the first UNICEF National Ambassador for the Philippines and has his own foundation, the Shining Light Foundation, to support needy children.
Choosing the Sennheiser evolution e 825 microphone for the Gary V. edition, Gary and Sennheiser will both donate from the proceeds of every microphone sold an equal amount to the above mentioned charitable fund. In a special meeting in Manila the contract was signed by Gary and Rolf Meyer, Sennheiser’s President for Marketing and Sales in Germany.
”My heart is with the children. Therefore I would like to thank Sennheiser and Yupangco for helping me promote the children’s interest with this great project,” explained Gary very emotionally. Philip Yupangco, President of Yupangco Electronics, added: ”People in the Philippines love music, children and of course Gary V. Here it all comes together.”
Throughout his career Gary V., an insulin-dependent juvenile diabetic for 23 years, has promoted his interest in children very much in his songs and in his outreach programs. In 1988, together with a couple of friends, he provided the initial funding for the Shining Light Foundation which has provided dozens of scholarships and medical support to children and indigent families as well as religious foundations and churches.
”For Sennheiser it is a great pleasure to work with such an outstanding artist on such a unique project,” said Rolf Meyer as he thanked Gary and his wife Angeli as well as Philip Yupangco on behalf of Yupangco Electronics. The e 825 microphone is part of Sennheiser’s evolution series of microphones and one of the most successful products in this category in the Asian market.
